Each of your adjustment appointments at Dr. Maynard Davenport’s orthodontic clinic played an important role in gradually correcting the alignment of your teeth. Yet this is not the end of the process.

Even after Dr. Maynard Davenport has uninstalled your braces, there will still be a mild amount of residual tension in your dental sockets. If it isn’t addressed it could cause your teeth to relapse out of their new position and orientation.

To prevent this from happening, Dr. Maynard Davenport will provide you with an orthodontic retainer. This can be done immediately after their braces have been removed.

A Hawley retainer is the most common option. It is a removable mouthpiece made from a special acrylic material. It incorporates strong wires that lock the retainer in place with specific teeth.

If one area of your teeth needed significant correction from your braces, Dr. Maynard Davenport might recommend installing a temporarily fixed metal retainer. This sturdy metal band, that will be cemented behind the teeth.

You will need to use your removable retainer for a specific amount of time each day. As the residual tension in your dental sockets fades Dr. Maynard Davenport might change these at times.

If you are in the Lakeside, Arizona, area and you have a question about the retention process, you can call 928-367-2939 to speak to one of the orthodontic specialists at Maynard V Davenport Orthodontics.
