If you have braces and a sweet tooth, times may be tough. However, there is no real reason to fret. There are many sweet treats and snacks that are safe for you to enjoy while wearing braces. Our orthodontist and team can go over treats to avoid and safe treats when wearing braces in Lakeside, Arizona.

Treats to Avoid
Avoid snacks that are hard, chewy or sticky. Some specific treats to avoid include licorice, caramel, gum, suckers, taffy and hard pretzels. Snacks like these could bend or break your brackets and wires.

Safe Treats
We suggest that you stick to safe snacks, like soft foods. Chocolate, peanut butter, milkshakes, ice cream, and gelatin-based candies are all safe and tasty choices. If you want a healthier, sweet snack, consider fruit. Berries like strawberries and raspberries are great choices. Hard fruits like apples should be cut into thin slices. Be sure to rinse out your mouth with water or brush your teeth after consuming something sugary and sweet. This can help protect both your teeth and your braces.
